Do you have a lazy mouth?

A lot of us have one and could enunciate way better. It can be difficult for an audience to listen to someone who does not make any effort to pronounce each syllable of each word correctly. English is my second language. I have a strong French accent so if I don’t make an effort on my pronunciation, no one will understand me. So I pay attention to that, especially when I’m shooting a video.

So if you tend to mumble, if people ask you to repeat what you have just said, you can lose definitively credibility and your audience may have difficulty staying focused on what you’re saying.

In this video or on this article, you will learn how to enunciate better so you can make a bigger impact on your audience.

When you mumble, speech sounds get distorted being squeezed through your teeth. Poor sounds ! I’m Lili, video coach for lady bosses and I’m going to share in this video 4 easy tips and exercises to work on your pronunciation.

First tip: Stand up straight.

Stand up straight when you speak. This helps you to breathe better and makes it easier for the sound to come out. The clearer your breathing, the clearer your speech. Look straight ahead, look at the camera if you shoot a video. The camera should be at your eyes level. So, your jaw is flat instead of lowered compressing your throat.

Second tip : Face workout

To do a face workout, you simply need a mirror, a pencil, and 5 minutes of your time per day. The purpose of this exercise is to help you open your mouth and encourage more precision.

Take the pencil, place It in your mouth as far back as possible from your lips, bite the pencil do you don’t have to hold it. Start with words or short sentences then try some more complex ones like ‘’I wish to wish the wish you wish to wish, but if you wish the wish the witch wishes, I won’t wish the wish you wish to wish.’’

Once you have done this for 2 minutes with the pencil, you repeat the same content without a pencil for 2 minutes.

And you will notice that, as if by magic, you pronounce much better. Your mouth is much more relaxed. This exercise can also be done with a cork.

Tell me in the comments once you’ve tried this exercise and if you saw a difference.

Third tip: Reading a children’s book

It is an exercise that I do almost every night before my children go to bed, whether in French or in English. And I make sure I pronounce every syllable correctly. And I also take advantage of the time to set the tone. These books are a goldmine for improving your oral skills.

Fourth tip : Reading your speech out loud

If you are preparing for a presentation, podcast or video recording, you have probably written your text or script. First, I invite you to read it out loud, a little louder than usual. You will automatically use more breath, and you will probably slow down and articulate better in the process.

Then, Increase speed while maintaining clear pronunciation of each sound. This should help you to be understood by your audience.

Stand up straight, face workout, reading children’s books, and reading your speech aloud are 4 tips which help you to enunciate better. If you need help creating homemade and professional looking videos, you can apply for a free 30-minute session
